What should we wear?
Here are a few tips I like to share when you’re thinking about what to wear for your e-session:
Try on everything a few days before the shoot. You’ll want to make sure your clothes fit correctly and you don’t have distractions from panty lines, bra straps, poor fitting clothing, or wrinkles! This is not just for the ladies :) guys, make you're groomed to your highest standards including haircut and facial hair.
Avoid being too matchy-matchy. Gone are the days of both couples wearing white t-shirts and jeans. You’ll want what you wear to complement each other, not copy! (Using a pop of color to tie both of your outfits together always works well). Along with this, avoid unnecessary logos.
For women, avoid shirts that are baggy or super-loose. Sometimes the camera can exaggerate the looseness in the clothing, which can cause one to appear larger than they really are.
Feel free to bring an outfit change (one casual look, one dressy look). It’s always good to switch things up a bit and if we change locations, it will essentially be like you had two photoshoots.
You want both outfits to go together like it was one outfit. Pick a staple artical of clothing and work off of that one piece (for example: pick the perfect dress for you to wear, then pick your accesories and your partner's outfit to work well with the dress).
Beware of TOO MUCH pattern. You don't want to look to busy but you also don't want to blend in, so I encourage you to pick one patterned item of clothing per couple's outfit.
Wear what you feel comfortable in. If you’re not comfortable in what you’re wearing, it often shows in the images.
Be mindful of the sizing of your clothing and make sure nothing is too tight or too loose. Often I have seen men come in shirts that are too tight, too short in arm length, or too short in torso length. I have seen women come with bra's that make unflattering pinches or have cuts of clothing that aren't flattering for their body type.
Pick colors that DO NOT blend into the environment (for example: wearing green or navy in a nature setting or wearing red/yellow/orange in a setting with a lot of brick).
Take a look at your entire outfit, yes that means dreaded 360 view. Take a video while you spin to make sure you like how it looks not just from the front! You never want to limit your angles during your session! Your outfit matters from head to TOE, make sure both of you have shoes that go with your outfit. If you don't have any you like, take this as a free pass to go shopping.
My goal is to make you feel like the BEST VERSION OF YOURSELVES! Don't wear something because you think you should, wear something that feels like you! I love receiving pictures over text with outfit ideas and I am more then happy to give you advice and suggestions.
More Great Tips!
For both men and women, make sure your nails are all clean and shaped and if wearing polish, avoid chipped or faded nail color.
If you're someone who loves bold colors, jewelry is a great place to add a pop! Neon colors or white do not work as well for your clothing in photos but they work amazing for accessories and jewelry!
Make sure not to come hungry, there is nothing worse then trying to look happy, when you're hangry.
I reccomend to make this day special! Don't work that day or have other things to do, if you can avoid it. Keep your day stress free and maybe even plan a fun date night after you're finished with shoot!
Even beyond outfits, the true key to having great photos is having a really fun time together!
Should we bring props?
This is completely up to you! If there are certain items that reflect something about you guys or your story that you would like to incorporate into photos, bring them (hats, fun shoes, a pet, sports paraphernalia, a car, bicycles, etc.)! If you have any fun signs or other props for a great “save the date” shot for you to use, bring those as well. It’s completely up to you.
Just a reminder that if you would like to bring a pet, you must bring someone along to the photoshoot to take care of the pet after you're finished with the pictures of them.
Is there anything else we should bring?
Bring powder to help eliminate any shine on the skin, lipstick, and hairspray for any flyaway hairs. Other than that you’re good to go! Be ready to have some fun!
Planning a wedding can be stressful and overwhelming at times. Let this photoshoot be something you really just enjoy together and let's have some fun!
